One family against a world of climate change | UNICEF

02:03
Time heals all wounds but one family finds time wasn't on their side. This video highlights how a small family is impacted by the changing climate over the course of three generations. Children are the most vulnerable, yet least responsible for the effects of climate change. More than half a billion children live in areas with extremely high flood occurrence and 160 million in high drought severity zones, leaving them highly exposed. Climate change means more droughts, floods, heatwaves and other severe weather conditions. These events can ripple throughout a child's life and limit on their access to sanitation, education and opportunities. ________________________________________________ Song track: MIIA - Dynasty [Permissions through Musicbed license] ________________________________________________ Subscribe to UNICEF here: http://bit.ly/1ltTE3m The official UNICEF YouTube channel is your primary destination for the latest news updates from the frontline, documentaries, celebrity appeals, and more about our work to realize the rights of every child. Performance | Alessia Cara | TEDxTeen

07:32
Alessia performs her debut song, "Here" and "Scars". "Here" is unapologetically autobiographical: "'Here' is a true story," Alessia confesses. "It’s a party song, but really it's the complete opposite of a party song. It’s absolutely me; it shouts out the person in the corner of the party, looking around uncomfortably. I feel like this song narrates what the wallflower is thinking." There’s a new breed of pop star seizing hold of the world's airwaves and online— more accurately, a conscious pop star who has set to subversively top charts and sway hearts and minds. This enigma embodied is 18-year-old, Canadian-Italian Alessia Cara, who is riding the refrains of her ironic anthem, “Here.” Premiered by The Fader, “Here” garnered over 500,000 total streams in its first week as well as hit #1 on Spotify, resounding praise for its freshness and insight. Alessia’s mature pen game is matched by her larger-than-life voice; she’s dazzlingly chameleon-like, boasting the kind of versatility that makes Rihanna such a force. In short, Alessia has cause to be confident, but she is still the bashful, small-town girl, even in the big city. Alessia is equal parts fresh face, old soul, newcomer and lifer. 3 tools to become more creative | Balder Onarheim | TEDxCopenhagenSalon

17:50
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. “Growing up makes us less creative. Therefore we have to re-learn creativity, and luckily there are multiple ways to do so,” says Balder Onarheim, PhD. In everyday language, ‘creativity’ is often used in relation to artistic creation. But amongst scholarly researchers it is acknowledged that creativity is one of the most crucial human traits. Balder is PhD and creativity researcher at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the founder of the Copenhagen Institute of NeuroCreativity – an institute devoted to understand and disseminate knowledge about the neurological underpinnings of creativity. “Creativity is not just about art – it is one of the most crucial human traits. It lies at the heart of innovation, thus it is not a superficial skill but a necessity for human survival,” says he says. Our democracy no longer represents the people. Here's how we fix it | Larry Lessig | TEDxMidAtlantic

20:54
Harvard Professor Lawrence Lessig makes the case that our democracy has become corrupt with money, leading to inequality that means only 0.02% of the United States population actually determines who's in power. Lessig says that this fundamental breakdown of the democratic system must be fixed before we will ever be able to address major challenges like climate change, social security, and student debt. This is not the most important problem, it's just the first problem. Lawrence Lessig is the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School, former director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University, and founder of Rootstrikers, a network of activists leading the fight against government corruption. He has authored numerous books, including Republic, Lost: How Money Corrupts Our Congress—and a Plan to Stop It, Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace, Free Culture, and Remix.
