TED's secret to great public speaking | Chris Anderson

Оценок: 12567 | Просмотров: 792402
There's no single formula for a great talk, but there is a secret ingredient that all the best ones have in common. TED Curator Chris Anderson shares this secret — along with four ways to make it work for you. Do you have what it takes to share an idea worth spreading? TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and much more. The Measures of a Good Speaker are: Honesty, Empathy/Listening (by doing only 1/2 the talking and allowing for honest questions and comments), and Keeping One's Word, NOT how loud ("look how powerful I am") or how fast ("look how smart I am") one can talk.

hello I'm autistic and i was become able to reed or learn because of bipolar disorder. the apisods of mania where macing me able to learn. because of that i was always interested in psychology. and by studying that subject i developed 4 patterns of human personality. all of us are mixes of this 4 but one of them is always leading. i'm Jewish living in Georgia and by compering behavior of this nations i saw tow different leading patterns.about five ears ego i met one physicist Emzar Khvichia how came to the same 4 patterns by analysing human history. hi is much healthyer and more educated then me so his study hes more details, like Implementation of a pattern depends on what stage of development is the nation, scientific or religious stage. for example, India and the United States have the same pattern, but their behavior is different because of the differences in their levels of development. There are certainly other factors, but i can't tell everything in one letter. The problem is that Emzar's book is very poorly written. He writes very incomprehensibly. And this is a common thing for post-Soviet physicists. on the other hand I am a writer and have twice published not at my own expense. so if someone helps, we can write a useful and understandable book. Can anybody tell me, how we can get funding? P.S. Emzar his PHD in Sociology

Thanks @OmarFrancisco, great summary. I add a few practical tips to your list: 1. Focus on one major idea. (5:04) use metaphors and examples that link back to the major idea helps convey your message and reinforce it. 2. Give people a reason to care. (5:33) 3. Build your idea with familiar concepts. (6:09), in your audience's language 4. Make your idea worth sharing. (7:14) is the idea useful to others? will inspire others to do things differently? 5. Test your talk with trusted friends: does it make sense? is it successful?

Great stuff! I had to combine everything I learned from thirty years as a police officer and a stand-up comedian. Together with my experience with Toastmasters and as a facilitator in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, I had to write a book to share all I learned with those who want to be a better public speaker. I get and learn so much from TED talks. One can never know enough or stop learning. All the skills one can learn in public speaking can be used for fun, or to make the big bucks on the speaking circuit. There has never been a greater need for professional speakers for corporate functions and meetings. Thanks for sharing.

I was quite struck by listening to Wil Self the other day. Ideas are a process pandemonium. A summation of life experience, education, training and circumstances pulled together by a learned thought process. The terminology and examples are misleading in this talk, almost as though you were in touching distance of what you wanted to communicate. A speaker believed that creative ideas were almost important as basic education. clearly this belief is not supported in the education system until basic knowledge is learnt and understood. what he was likely to be observing is technique of learning to formed ideas by connecting the building blocks in the second sentence. It is not true that ideas come before these building blocks are established in the brain as knowledge is layered. The process you go on to describe is just that layering relevant knowledge in the listeners brain.

The best method that I have found effective, especially if you want or need the public's attention is to step down from the podium and be another member of the grand audience or the public. Besides, you're already apart of the crowd but only on the stage of speaking. Remember, it is just another stage unless you are within the crowd. Its really the only way to gain a crowd's trust and vise versa. "Power to the people".

BS. Everyone's perception and conception of everything is not the same. Different associations and contexts and views and imaginings of something is the norm. The pattern will vary significantly. This is intellectually dishonest.

Chris Anderson, your job is wonderful and necessary. You do your job very well and the affectivness of your skill allows as many people to see great ideas from someone elses eyes through their own eyes.
