Yeah I watched your video and now wondering, how can I improve my reading speed when I only read on PC? The books I read cannot be found on paper, I also work a lot on PC and during a day I almost have no chance to read anything on a paper.

When your native language isn't english (mine is german) it is also distracting, when you don't know every word even if they aren't important at all. That's distracting me the most

The title must be, how to read a book a day then forget all of those books.
A J (3 дня назад)
You can't read a book a day! People look, just take your time and read. The amount of time it takes you to actually read the book does not matter. Quality reading over quantity, that also applies for more than just reading!

I don’t think the focus should be in the number of books you read in a short amount of time. If you don’t retain any of the information, which your brain is perfectly happy to do, what benefit does it have? Wouldn’t it be better to learn a subject deeply and actually gain long term knowledge?
Jordan Harry (5 дней назад)
Correct David! Books read is just one of the many metrics that you can measure when it comes to learning faster and more effectively. As always let's keep the conversation going, I’m more than happy to connect with you on Instagram (@jordannharryy) and LinkedIn to see how I can help you more 👌
Hallie Hurst (6 дней назад)
This comment section is so frustrating. Obviously speed reading is a useful skill that helps people who might have to read a book a day or who want to improve their reading speed. He’s not suggesting that everyone does it all the time.
Jordan Harry (5 дней назад)
I really appreciate this Hallie- very refreshing!
Hallie Hurst (6 дней назад)
Wonderful video. I’ve always been a naturally fast reader but starting at university this year I’ve really struggled with being forced to read books I don’t enjoy. With them I read so slowly and I have a hard time keeping on top of what I need to get done. I tried skimming them but I just wasn’t taking everything in I needed to. I’ll be putting these techniques into practice next term! Thank you so much!
Jordan Harry (5 дней назад)
You're more than welcome and thank you for your time watching my talk! Great to see you've already used one of the techniques but it's all about the review as that will improve your recall and comprehension so be sure to go further in-depth after you skim. As always let's keep the conversation going, I’m more than happy to connect with you on Instagram (@jordannharryy) and LinkedIn to see how I can help you more 👌
Arexsis (6 дней назад)
A question I had that remained unanswered, or I missed, was when you should be speedreading and when you should turn it off and enjoy the voice in your head and the 250wpm speed. Should you be speedreading novels? Textbooks? Comment Sections? etc etc
Arexsis (4 дня назад)
Thanks Jordan
Jordan Harry (5 дней назад)
I always compare it to watching a movie. When you watch a film you set aside time to enjoy it, but when you're rushed to get through an episode of GOT you might put it on 2x. I advise you switch it on when needed once you've spent a good month practising and finding your comfortable speed. As always let's keep the conversation going, I’m more than happy to connect with you on Instagram (@jordannharryy) and LinkedIn to see how I can help you more 👌

Stefan R (7 дней назад)
Hi Jordan. Great encouraging speech! I have tried several times to implement similar approaches, as well Tim Ferriss has a video about it. My question especially to your talk: Imagine a book has 500 pages. 500x10s skimming plus 500x30s scanning would be already 20.000s or 5,5 hours of prereading.....!! Or I just didn't understand. Please advise.
Stefan R (5 дней назад)
Hi Jordan. Would you as well have an answer or comment on my question please? You can't obviously spend 40 seconds each page.
Jordan Harry (5 дней назад)
Great to hear you have previous experience. Thank you for the question! You are right but the aspect you should include is when reading for the information you want to find the chapters that interest you so out of those 500 pages you may only end up skimming say 5 chapters. So for argument's sake let's say there are 25 pages per chapter, so that's 125 pages instead of 500 pages. Hope that helps? As always let's keep the conversation going, I’m more than happy to connect with you on Instagram (@jordannharryy) and LinkedIn to see how I can help you more 👌
bepper66 (8 дней назад)
1500 words per minute equals to 25 words per second. Thats 3 lines in an average book per second. I strongly doubt thats physicaly possible while still recognizing and understanding what words mean in context.
Jordan Harry (5 дней назад)
Yes your right to think that's near impossible but wait until you realise you can too and that 1500 is actually relative. There are students and teachers who read 4,000wpm within a session- blows my mind too and I hope to reach that level one day. As always let's keep the conversation going, I’m more than happy to connect with you on Instagram (@jordannharryy) and LinkedIn to see how I can help you more 👌
Dan R. (8 дней назад)
Here's an opinion you might have to meditate on for a while: you could spend a whole month, studying, highlighting, and reviewing one book, with the goal of at least 90% comprehension. Or, you could speed read through one book per day, stopping to take notes on anything you find important, and leave with 20-50% comprehension. Which one would you take? Looking at the numbers, that's 90% comprehension vs 600-1500% comprehension per month, and with the speed reading, you've entered the minds of 30 different authors, "meeting" new authorities in your chosen field once per day. Not to mention the 80/20 rule.. you're already getting 80% of what's worth remembering from the book by only comprehending 20% of it. Read a book to the point where you could correctly answer multiple choice questions about it. That’s going to have the greatest effect in life, because when a scenario that you’ve learned about in your book appears in your life, you’ll know how to respond to it. There’s no need to memorize it unless you'll be teaching it. This isn't grade school anymore, we're not writing book reports. Yes, buying 30 books per month can get expensive, but pass it off as an investment. That's only $300 per month on average. The one with the most available knowledge wins. The one who makes excuses about comprehension is subconsciously defending his loss.

But if you spend 10 seconds skimming and 30 seconds scanning... for a 600 page book that's still going to take close to 7 hours to finish, and that's still without fully reading and comprehending the subject matter. I don't see how this lends itself to reading a book a day unless you don't have a job. Uninterrupted I can read about 100 pages per hour with good comprehension, but that still doesn't lend itself to more than 3 books a week for me, given allowable free time, and that's if I basically do almost nothing but read in my available time.

Spark notes + speed reading = 10 books a day. Lol
Nguyen Hoang (20 дней назад)
Haven't watched the video but i have sincere doubts about leaning from speed reading. It works maybe on short term memory but long term recall there is no way. Unless you are mentally gifted like a savant or something.
Jordan Harry (18 дней назад)
Great to see you're open-minded and challenge what you consume Nguyen. You're very right, to reach my level it'll take months of intentional training. I wasn't implying that we have to read a book in 24 hours, instead provide people with the skills to do so with the time they have available- which is dependable on lifestyle and motivation. As always I’m more than happy to connect with you on Instagram (@jordannharryy) and LinkedIn to see how I can help you more 👌
Nguyen Hoang (20 дней назад)
after watching it I still don't think it's possible to read a book a day. You're implying we all have 24hrs to read a book lol. Reading the table of contents and the heading is definitely helpful, something that I sometimes forget to review. Once you have the structure of the book in mind, it's much easier to follow and understand what the author of the book is leading to. Reading 1500 word still seems like an impossibility unless you've had lots of training to read. Assuming the human brain works like the human body, the only way we can improve to speed read 1500 words, is to practice practice speed reading. The time it takes to see improvements, i'm assuming will be along the same lines as the rest of the body. it takes 30days to form a habit. it takes 2 - 3 months to double your running distance. I'm guessing it takes about 1 to 2 months to double your reading speed. They should do a study on this. i'd be really curious
carol gardiner (20 дней назад)
My best friend had a stutter, then a stroke, he had to learn to speak again & could not read at all... Have got him through this by him watching dvds & I'll say the words, got him reading again by same method....Teaching him French, just by saying same sentences in conversation over & over... I'm a weirdo, could read 14 books a day from 5 years old (John Wyndham & stuff), but Simon is learning off me = His mums face when she hears me chatting to him in french & he can understand & respond = yeh, he does get mixed up, but its a learning curve.... It's re-educating the other half of his brain, making it work after the stroke xx

I discover a way to keep my attention on the text I'm reading, and also keep a very good speed. Where possible, the method is to use a text reading software to read the text. Then, while you hear the text spoken to you, you follow the text on the screen with your eyes. It seems that hearing the text bypasses any sub-vocalization. Also, with this method you can easily stay focused. I adjust the reading speed as needed for comprehension, even to slower speeds than how we talk. This takes longer compared to a higher speed. But it takes much, much longer if you try to go through the text in another way. So, this proposal is: -- Have a daily program, i.e. some specific hours every day devoted to reading. -- Do not aim at reading fast. Aim at reading more.

Any tips for not feeling drowsy when you read????
Jordan Harry (18 дней назад)
Find the best time and environment to read. A lot of people read before bed, my suggestion would be to find experiment and find your optimum time of day to read. And set aside a small time window e.g. 10 minutes each day. Slowly but surely you'll improve your willpower and eye muscles to read consistently and longer. Hope this helps. Don't read books. USE them. I can assure you that there's a huge distinction. Sure, I can read the 48 Rules of Power, but what good is that if I don't implement it? The answer? It isn't. It's as useless as the media I would otherwise mindlessly consume via YouTube or the internet.

First of all, thank you. Some of your tips I will try most definitely! We do however disagree on one point. You may read faster without the "voices" in your head but it will be a much duller experience. Most of the time I would not like that. Maybe imagine a faster voice would help? A compromise between fast and fun? I found that listening to fast music with a strong rhythm helps on those days when I have my difficulties with speed and memory. In my experience, the text is easier to remember when I associate it with emotions. It just "sticks" better if I allow myself to "hear" voices, sounds, "see" lights, faces, ... I can not believe that our minds would only provide us with this "sounds", because we learned to read a certain way. I think it connects the data of the text to our experiences and therefore makes it interesting and memorable. Most of the time I would like to remember books years from now. I am a firm believer that an active mind together with a good book provides much more interesting "moving pictures" than even Hollywood could create and I do love movies. After 2 too 3 pages of a good book, I honestly don't remember that I actually read sentences, and only "watch" movies unfold with the added bonus that in a book one can easily make the inner voices say different things. Say you don't like a name in a book, after a bit of concentration the first few times you read that name and you actively try to "read" some other name, you will only "hear" the other name later on. Very helpful also with other pet peeves ;)

Jordan, your courtesy to people in the comments is so refreshing; I believe this teaching and learning skill is only the beginning of many great achievements you shall find in your life. You’ve encouraged me to get some more of my library read starting today! Congratulations to your mother, what a special woman.
