The key to transforming yourself -- Robert Greene at TEDxBrixton

Оценок: 17436 | Просмотров: 1361521
Why do we fixate on the things we can see immediately when we crave change? In this passionate talk Robert Greene shares the key to transforming ourselves and also talks about his own personal transformation and his path to becoming a bestselling author. About Robert Greene Robert Greene is the internationally best-selling author of The 48 Laws of Power, The Art of Seduction, The 33 Strategies of War and The 50th Law (with rapper 50 Cent). His books have been translated into 17 languages. He has worked in New York as an editor and writer at several magazines; and in Hollywood as a story developer and writer. He has lived in Brixton, Paris, and Barcelona; speaks several languages and worked as a translator. He tweets as @RobertGreene About TEDx In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

If you believe the information in his books by logic his talk is an example of the same game playing, his posture and mannerisms nothing more then a role play, he is in fact a paradox of truth and lies of false and true till Robert Green is a man not to be trusted but if that is the case then why would you believe me or for that matter yourself if the world he paints is no more then a game to be won. A world where we trust nothing as sincere or true be it politics religion business or even the actions of our children is a world of paranoid insercurity

People here in the comments are going on about travelling and wandering and all that bullcrap. No! You're missing the point. You need to figure out what matters. That's the whole point. Not wandering.

I have experienced exactly what you talk about toward the end of your presentation. I too, had quit my job to follow my spiritual path, just to find out that this way was not sustainable. I went back to work two years later and now I am on constantly figuring things about myself, but I am doing small steps. I am happy in my job and make larger progress than I had anticipated in designing and finding my path.

Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche would say: Let the youthful soul look back on life with the question: what have you truly loved up to now, what has elevated your soul, what has mastered it and at the same time delighted it? Place these venerated objects before you in a row, and perhaps they will yield for you, through their nature and their sequence, a law, the fundamental law of your true self. Compare these objects, see how one complements, expands, surpasses, transfigures another, how they form a stepladder upon which you have climbed up to yourself as you are now; for your true nature lies, not hidden deep within you, but immeasurably high above you, or at least above that which you normally take to be yourself!

When he mentions that experiences don't work or are not lasting through spiritual, guru advice, social experiences, therapy and drugs (plus whatever else in that group that he said) I tend to disagree. I've seen people who lived the path of a drug user or mental health hospital patient etc who have used these points to create a lasting and fulfilling meaning for themselves and others. He talks about how he had to go a different route that ended up being essential to the one that he was meant to follow in the first place so he should understand that what he may think is not useful in those areas, really can be. I hope that makes sense.

Given that this guy's techniques have been widely studied and practiced by those who desire power, I was not expecting someone meek and mild mannered. I expected to see someone like Tony Soprano or R Lee Ermy.

This guy said he wanted to expose the laws of power, the games people play.. as if he was doing a good thing.. Then one sees the title of his book is nothing of the sort the title is 48 laws of power, and people read it to try to play those games for power. Sounds like going against his claimed moral intentions to me.

Love this speech. It has made me more convinced of our choice of home educating / unschooling having been the right one. My kids love learning and have specific interests that we just let them learn amazing amounts of. They get to make mistakes and go wrong and change interests. I love what I see developing in my children. I wish I had had that chance. In stead I had a life time of searching as I was told very often as a child that I couldn't do whatever career path I was considering because of various reasons. In the end I doubt any of those reasons were really as factually as they were presented. I have settled and struggled throughout my working career. I think, now that I'm 50, that I have finally found something that I can get fully behind. So far I have enjoyed the education, now starting a business. I'm quite passionate about it.
